The five BirdLife members approaching Lake Broadwater Conservation Park on Saturday 23 July 2022 wondered if they would even reach the site, given the numerous spots around Dalby where water was running beside or over the roads. However, despite flooded tracks around the southern side of the lake, the group was able to access several areas in the park and enjoyed the fine weather and birding at this special place.
Stevenson Street, Toowoomba Range
Nine of the bravest birding souls met at Stevenson Street (north), Redwood, for a BirdLife outing on a cold and windy Saturday morning, 9 July 2022.
Geham National Park
Cold and windy winter conditions but still some interesting sightings!
Irongate Conservation Park
This wonderful conservation block near Pittsworth is always worth a visit – and this was our third time! Ironically the good season has made bird watching a bit more of a challenge….
Highfields Falls
Highfields Falls is always a delight to visit and on a cool overcast day it still held some surprises.
In 1995 Pat McConnell and Al Young completed a report on the bird life of Cooby Dam for the Toowoomba Council. That report is contained here, and makes for an interesting comparison to our recent survey work at Cooby.
Fairy gerygone sighting in Redwood Park
On 19 November 2021, a Fairy Gerygone Gerygone palpebrosa was heard, sighted and photographed by local BirdLife members in dry rainforest (semi-evergreen vine-thicket) at lower Redwood Park, on the Toowoomba escarpment.
Table Top Mountain Bush Reserve
After abandoning our initial plan of Duggan Park due to high winds and the potential of falling branches, it was decided to head to a more sheltered site nearby, which proved to be a brilliant decision.
The Palms National Park
The Palms is a tiny patch of rainforest surrounded by farmland and woodland just north of Cooyar.
Prince Henry Drive
Wrapped around the edge of the escarpment Prince Henry Drive has a reputation as one of the best birding spots in Toowoomba, and certainly lived up to that when we visited.
